A probe is a device that makes your thermostat controller read the floor surface of the area that it is connected to,  as apposed to the ambient air temperature. This is necessary in certain installation scenarios. Firstly, with under wood heating, you can not heat the flooring above 28 degrees floor temperature. Secondly, if the thermostat is installed outside of the area that it is connected to, you will need a probe. Lastly, certain other flooring such as screed and vinyl should have a probe to read the surface temperature.

Not all thermostats are compatible with the probes that we supply. Thus, these should be used in conjunction with the thermostats that we supply.

Our probes are accurate and reliable. The probe is installed during the installation process of the heating. Due to the fact that the probe makes the thermostat read the floor temperature, the heating will turn off quite a lot quicker than an air thermostat. Thus, you can also use the probe as an energy saving device.
